Through the generosity of an Indiana Arts Commission Arts in the Parks and Historic Sites Grant, high ability Greater Clark students representing each of the 11 elementary schools with intermediate populations have had the opportunity to learn about the story of William S. Culbertson, his family, and their business and philanthropic dealings, preserved through the Culbertson Mansion. Within the mansion, students have learned about patterns of art and corresponding symbolism. Outside the mansion, students have compared and contrasted the larger patterns of societal needs and career, cultural, and civic progression of that time period with those of today.
Students have represented one or more of their ideas in writing and in multi-media ceramic tilework which will be on a rotating public display at the Culbertson Mansion following the schedule listed below.
As a means of continuing the conversation at home, Culbertson Mansion is offering a discounted admission to GCCS families of these students from Oct. 22 to Dec. 15. Please note, this discount will be valid for each school during the week their students’ tiles are on display ONLY. For example, Utica parents receive the discount from Tuesday Nov 19th – Sunday 24th, while Utica’s tiles are displayed, and so on.
This discount will afford visitors who mention their child’s school $2 off the price of standard admission. Standard admission prices are as follows: $11 for adults 18 to 60; $6 for children 3- 17; $9 for seniors (60 and up). This discount is for each family during the week their students’ tiles are on display for their particular school. For example, Utica parents receive the discount from Tuesday Nov 19th – Sunday 24th, while Utica’s tiles are displayed, and so on.
The Culbertson Mansion is located at 914 E. Main Street, New Albany, IN 47150 and is open Tuesday to Sunday. Guided tours begin at the top of each hour from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Pictures of the tiles will be on the Culbertson Mansion’s Facebook page correlating to the same week-long exhibit cycle as follows:
