Midwest Talent Search Information. Registration Open.

Registration for testing dates for the Midwest Academic Talent Search, which is conducted by the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University, is now open.  Students in third-grade through sixth-grade may take a special version of the ACT called the EXPLORE. Students in sixth-grade may opt to take the EXPLORE, ACT, and/or SAT. Students in seventh- through eighth-grade may take the ACT and/or the SAT.

Participation in the Midwest Academic Talent Search is voluntary.  It is a program for verbally and mathematically talented middle school students based on their participation in an accelerated curriculum.  Practice on these exams can be valuable, particularly when scores earned in high school can have a dramatic impact on scholarships and college choice.  In addition, for the first time, high ability students and their families will be able to participate in secure, online communities with other families who have similar interests throughout the Midwest.

The EXPLORE (6th-grade) is offered in the fall and in the winter in the metropolitan area. The closest Saturday, November 7, 2015 testing location is at Holy Trinity Parish School, 423 Cherrywood Road, Louisville, KY 40207. The registration deadline is October 7, 2015. The closest Saturday, February 20, 2016 testing location is at Sacred Heart Academy, 3175 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY 40206. The registration deadline is Jan. 13, 2016.

The ACT and SAT are offered on multiple dates at multiple locations within easy driving distance. The redesigned SAT will be offered beginning in March 2016.

The cost for the EXPLORE is $74. For those students opting to take either the ACT or SAT, the costs vary depending on which test your child takes. This is explained on the NUMATS site. Financial aid is available for students who qualify for a federally subsidized program such as free or reduced-price lunch.

NUMATS encourages online registration. To register, go to http://www.my.ctd.northwestern.edu/numats.
